Minh Lan Tran: Heat Generation

To kick off Frieze London 2023, Wedel Art curated a performance event with Deutsche Bank showcasing ‘Heat Generation (Prayer)’ by Minh Lan Tran in collaboration with Léna Hetzel and dancers Chandenie Gobardhan, Pablo Saavedra de Decker, Kay Boyce and Kenneth Cruz. An homage to her roots in Hong Kong, the performance is rooted in diverse creative traditions and geographic histories, addressing themes of social unrest and channelling spiritual-political expression by prioritizing self-embodiment over representation.

Minh Lan Tran (b. 1997, Hong Kong) is an emerging London-based artist working across painting, film, writing and performance. Tran’s practice builds on her own writing and identity-based research. Coming from choreography and performance, the artist’s performance pieces and canvases evolve, respond and change through her own bodily actions.
